Austin Firefighters Honor Fallen Chief at 9/11 Run

Staff Report / ATXlocal.org

More than 40 firefighters from Austin, Texas, took part in the #911HeroesRun at Camp Mabry, alongside family and friends. The event, organized by the Travis Manion Foundation, aims to honor those who have sacrificed for freedom and provides an opportunity for reflection on the heroes of 9/11 and the ongoing sacrifices made in wars since.

This year, the firefighters ran in memory of Battalion Chief Travis L. Maher, who died on December 28, 2022, due to exposure to toxic materials while serving at Ground Zero after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Participants of all ages gathered to pay tribute to Maher, celebrating his life as a leader, coworker, and friend. The gathering highlighted the strong bonds within the firefighting community and the commitment to honor their fallen comrades.
