**Funding Announcement for Women in Manufacturing in Pittsburgh**
On October 1, 2024, Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie Su announced a significant workforce development initiative aimed at increasing opportunities for women in manufacturing during her visit to Pittsburgh. The event took place at the Energy Innovation Center.
Catalyst Connection has been awarded $716,701 through the National Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant initiative. This funding will be utilized to recruit and support women entering manufacturing apprenticeships, aiming to create a more inclusive workforce.
During her address, Secretary Su highlighted the initiative’s goal of eliminating the concept of nontraditional occupations for women. The announcement received support from local leaders, including Mayor Ed Gainey, County Executive Sara Innamorato, and PA State Representative Summer Lee.
Partner4Work, a regional nonprofit organization, also announced their collaboration with Catalyst Connection and local officials to enhance equitable access to well-paying jobs. They are working together to establish an "opportunity infrastructure" for women and underrepresented communities.
